My Trip to Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz
One of my favourite memories of my trips abroad was a simple yet beautiful moment of fortune. I was visiting my girlfriend in California and heading towards the end of my stay we decided to travel to Santa Cruz to visit the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Waking up that morning we were set on getting there leaving (relatively) early in the morning for the long drive. During this drive we saw the rain clouds building, passing through the valley the mist rolling down the sides of the mountains until eventually the clouds had enveloped us and inevitably, it started to rain, nevertheless we persisted.
Early afternoon passed and the sky was a depressing grey colour I was more accustomed to seeing back home but we were able to enjoy our time on the rides, eating food and exploring the beach. I even found a pebble who seemed particularly fond of me, so I adopted it and brought it home where it now resided on my desk.
After lunch begrudgingly I managed to persuade my girlfriend to go on the “scary” rollercoaster one last time and as a compromise we could ride the cable cars again to settle down before heading home. It was on this last ride of the day where everything aligned for the most beautiful of moments. I found myself suspended 12 meters in the air, faced with the most beautiful of sunsets at the end of a beautiful holiday.
It was a simple ride and I to this day am still not sure if it is pure coincidence or a genius plan to align the cable car with the direction of the sun set but this would be a relatively simple and cheap experience I would recommend to anyone.
