Aber Fall's Shelter
The brief I created for this project was to provide a simple shelter at the end of a long hike to resting, with minimal impact to the surroundings. And for it to use material that could be carried to site in stages by an individual: concrete (water and aggregate supplied by the nearby steam), minimal timber and adhesive tiling.
With a narrow low entrance the design is intended for minimal use inside, only to rest for one/two people, with a singular window to provide light and an opportunity to gaze at the darkened night sky as you sleep. With a concrete foundation a number of gutters are cast into it to provide drainage out of the shelter and a small fire pit set aside from the structure which can also act as a rain collector.
